As part of the regular lockdown social pedagogy gatherings, this month Ali Gardner and Lowis Charfe will talk about social pedagogy in the global crisis. This webinar will be a mix of lectures followed by an interactive discussion in which concepts, theory and practice will be addressed in an interactive way. This webinar adds to SPPA's aim of collecting and sharing experiences and evidence of how our profession can ultimately contribute to a more inclusive and empowered society.
As the world changes around us and high levels of uncertainty prevail, Ali and Lowis consider how social pedagogy can support us in living, learning and leading new futures. In this webinar, they will explore the challenges and opportunities facing social care work with both children and adults and question the role each of us can play in creating new ways of thinking and practicing.

Speakers
Ali recently set up her own organisation Head, Heart and Hands in Practice following 15 years as a University Senior Lecturer. Ali qualified as a social worker in 1993 and has worked predominantly with adults with a learning disability. Over this time she has developed educational resources and published books relating to personalisation and social pedagogy. Ali has been a Director of an Advocacy Project working with children and adults for over 10 years. Ali is currently working closely with a number of local authorities and adult social care providers to develop the understanding and application of Social Pedagogy in working alongside adults.
Lowis is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire and joint Course Lead for the MA in Social Pedagogy Leadership. She has run various training sessions around social pedagogy for several Local Authority teams and third sector organisations. She is also the lead for the UK partner team in the Erasmus funded Massive Open On-Line Course (MOOC) project, Social Pedagogy In Europe. Headed by ThemPra, the project has developed a short on-line course looking at the role of social pedagogy across Europe.
Previously she worked as a qualified social worker in a Leaving Care Team, supporting young care leavers to live independently. Her first role was as a Youth Offending Team Officer for the Manchester YOT service. Because of her previous social work experience, she understands the link between social pedagogy and social work and feels excited about the developments within the UK to embed social pedagogy into direct practice.
